I'm jumping in with this title because I know some of our students have read it. As far as I'm concerned, it was the perfect conclusion to this series. I remember the first one knocking my socks off when it was published. I'm a little vague on the second and third volumes, but number four reminded me how much I love Ann Brashares' writing.
Who's going to weigh in on this one?

Well, I will! I agree with Lisa. To my mind, a perfect series ends with the reader satisfied that the characters have come through the fire, so to speak, and they will be okay. We have watched Tibby and Carmen, Bee and Lena, go through some pretty intense flames, and after this 4th summer it is clear that they will be more than okay; they will be fine.
Ok. This book was my second favorite (my favorite one was the third). I loved that way that Lena, Bee, Tibby and Carmen finally become good friends! It seems like it's really cemented by the end. With the other books, it seemed like they spent too much time apart and that it didn't really impact their lives, but in this book, the time the four of them spend together is a lot more interesting because the amount is so limited. Also, Kostos, What was up with that? (not that it wasn't what I wanted to happen) but still....
Mrs. Brown, I'm with you on the Kostos thing. Sure, if their love is true you want them to be together, but I thought the other guy was very cool. Cooler than Kostos.
That other guy was too cool. He was a great experience for Lena -- someone to help her learn to trust again and to help her see that she can love again, but she completely understood the nature of that relationship, that it was just a stepping stone. And that epitomizes what I loved so much about No. 4: that they all really stretched themselves.
